Abstract
In recent years, the considerable progress of miniaturizationand the consequent increase of the e ciency of digitalcircuits has allowed a great di usion of the wireless sensornetwork technology. This has led to the growth of applicationsand protocols for applying these networks to severalscenarios, such as the military one, where it is essential to deploysecurity protocols in order to prevent opponents fromaccessing the information exchanged among sensor nodes. This paper analyzes security issues of data processed by theWSN and describes a system able to generate sequences ofrandom numbers, which can be used by security algorithmsand protocols. The proposed True Random Number Generator(TRNG) exploits measurements obtained from sensornodes, in order to allow every node to produce random dataupon request, without involving a trusted third party. Theproposed TRNG behavior has been tested by carrying outthe NIST tests, and the obtained experimental results indicatethe high degree of randomness of the produced numbers.
