Abstract

In thispaperaregularvariationalboundaryelementformulationfordynamicanalysisoftwo-dimensionalmagneto-electro-elasticdomainsispresented.Themethodisbasedonahybridvariationalprincipleexpressedintermsofgeneralizedmagneto-electro-elasticvariables.Thedomainvariablesareapproximatedbyusingasuperpositionofweightedregularfundamentalsolutionsofthestaticmagneto-electro-elasticproblem,whereastheboundaryvariablesareexpressedintermsofnodalvalues.Thevariationalprinciplecoupledwiththeproposeddiscretizationschemeleadstothecalculationoffrequency-independentandsymmetricgeneralizedstiffnessandmassmatrices.Thegeneralizedstiffnessmatrixiscomputedintermsofboundaryintegralsofregularkernelsonly.Ontheotherhand,toachievemeaningfulcomputationaladvantages,thedomainintegraldefiningthegeneralizedmassmatrixisreducedtotheboundarythroughtheuseofthedualreciprocitymethod,althoughthisimpliesthelossofsymmetry.Apurelyboundarymodelisthenobtainedforthecomputationofthestructuraloperators.Themodelcanbedirectlyusedintostandardassemblyproceduresfortheanalysisofnon-homogeneousandlayeredstructures.Additionally,theproposedapproachpresentssomefeaturesthatplaceitintheframeworkoftheweakformmeshlessmethods.Indeed,onlyasetofscatteredpointsisactuallyneededfor thevariableinterpolation,whileaglobalbackgroundboundarymeshisonlyusedfortheintegrationofthe influencecoefficients.Theresultsobtainedshowgoodagreementwiththoseavailableintheliteratureprovingtheeffectivenessoftheproposedapproach.
