Abstract

The traditional historiography had depicted the Sicilian history of the 14th century as a period of "baronial anarchy", enhancing the "national" feature of the struggle, between Sicilian nobles and immigrated Catalan ones. The essay shows that the civil war is instead a competition between factions, bounded together by political interests and not by "national" features.
