What are the symbols? What are the transmission mechanisms of the imaginary, its spaces and itssocial relevance? What the role and perimeter of the sacred, ofmyth, ritual, magic and religion in certain areas, mistakenly perceived as marginal, of contemporary society? What are the strategies for transmitting cultural memory and the processes of production and reproduction of identity? The essays in this volume try to provide some answers to these questions by confronting themthe pervasive, though not rarely hidden, cultural dialectic between immanence and transcendence and investigating the dynamics psychological and social aspects of symbolic production through the analysis of different contexts of expression (ergological, ritual, literary, artistic) of the symbolism of air, water, fire, vegetation, bread.
