Abstract

Human activitiesthatinvolvedeepmodifications ofthesoilsandasubstantialdeteriorationoftheirfeatures arenumerousandverydiverse.Suchactivitiesareconsideredaspedotechniquesand,inlarge-scale farming,areusedonlyundertheboostofsignificant economicreturns.Intheselastdecades,thepedotechniquesusedtotailorsoilssuitablefortablevinecultivationintheAcatevalley(Sicily,Italy),notonly ledtoobjectivedifficulties intheclassification ofthesedeeplytransformedsoilsbutalso,toseveralenvironmentalhazards.Inthisworkafterconsideringthepedotechniquesusedintailoringsuitablesoilfor tablevinecultivation,weproposetointroduceAnthrosolsasanewtaxonomicsoilOrderinSoilTaxonomystressingthatacorrectsoilclassification ofthesedeeplymodified soilsallowforacorrectunderstanding oftheirfeaturesandoftheenvironmentalhazardsthattheirmanagementcouldorigi-nate.
