Stages of research involved the analysis and characterization of the physical and cultural environments of the vine two scales of detail: 1) on a regional scale, identifying and characterizing the different areas of the Sardinian viticulture discriminating on the basis of physiographic, historical, cultural and socio-economic, and 2) enterprise-scale, identifying and characterizing, in the framework of the territorial areas, agro-ecosystems viticultural with homogeneous and representative features of the typological diversity of productive models. In particular, for a systemic understanding of agro-ecosystems cultivated has analyzed the constitutive complexity of vineyards expressed by the presence of indicators of biodiversity, landscape, sustainability, culture-historical value and economic value. The investigation led to a characterization of the 'vineyard system' in Gallura in relation to the complexity of the natural landscape and cultivated the sub-region in which it is inserted. The analysis of the degree of complexity of the landscape mosaic allowed to obtain information about the peculiarities of viticultural systems in terms of ecological and environmental value. The investigation unit represented by individual companies and by lori farms has allowed the identification as well as a constitutive complexity of its multi-purpose production systems, its wide variety of forms. The situations studied showed, for some farms in particular, a high ecological-environmental function, for example, for occupants vineyards a landscape system retrodunale of abandoned quarries, and to the biological uniqueness of the plant material, frequently 'of the ex-foot'. In the same area it was possible to bring out the historical value of vineyards, set in a complex mosaic of scrub, cultivated areas and pasture, still are configured with the type of the typical pastoralist residential settlements. The calculation of synthetic indices of different values of the vineyard system made it possible to compare different companies, in relation to the functions performed while identifying critical elements and / or value of the wine industry in different contexts studied.
