This paper considers how the Italian musical press reacted towards Auber's Muette dePortici, since 1832, when the opera was staged in Italy for the first time, until 1846. Thestagings in Trieste, Venice and Bolonia are especially discussed together with the reviewspublished in Italian magazines and newspapers such as «Censore universale dei teatri»,«Gazzetta privilegiata di Venezia» and «La Farfalla».
