Abstract
Digging, from Latin excavare (ex-cavare), has etymologically means "make cable" through the action of subtrahĕre (subtract). However, the meaning of the term within its required disambiguation can not be understood only in according to Latin etymology. So the technique of excavation is opposite and complementary to the technique of accumulation. It is a procedure for subtraction of volumes, a negative work in removal of the material, eroding and pulling. The essay explores, through intense and incomplete excursus of the contemporary experiences the rising of the archetypal dimension of underground architecture that reaches to the formation of a spatial introverted and celebratory vacuum.
