This essay intends to start an argument on the controversial project by Ernesto Basile for Montecitorio, as an opportunity to bring this work back into the correct cultural affiliation with respect to the Basilian research path, recalling some questions concerning methods and objectives of the Sicilian architect's work, which define its theoretical and operational field of action. Referring to one of the themes that most characterizes the Basilian methodological construct (the theme of the line and its "curvature") demonstrates how this directly involves practical implementation, indissolubly linking thinking to making architecture with methods that can be easily detected even in the project of Montecitorio. If we look at the Montecitorio building from this point of view, it is possible to reveal its specific coherence with the general design intentions of the author, helping, perhaps, to better frame its nature and, consequently, to direct the development of possible new critical interpretations.
