Abstract
The systematic construction of didactic knowledge was possible when the results of the sciences-source of Didactics were re-elaborated from the point of view of those who study the teaching-learning process, for the formulation of articulated hypotheses that have been verified by means of the experiment or with systematic observation, according to the two great traditions of quantitative and qualitative research. There are three essential periods in which the recent history of didactic research in Italy can be divided: the pioneering period (1954-1974), that of full academic recognition (1974-1994) and that of scientific maturity (1994-2014).
