Abstract
In this paper I will try to show why civic virtues are a necessary condition for the stability of liberal institutions. However, this point compromises some of the coordinates of Rawls’ moral topography. Therefore I will present an interpretation of the last Rawls’ production that can give a better understanding of the role of civic virtues in strengthening the stability of political institutions in a Political liberal community. Finally I will show why a certain form of liberal perfectionism is coherent with Rawls’ doctrine and can take the role of civic virtues seriously without falling into unacceptable forms of legal paternalism.
