The essay examines the system of the Italian public support for businesses. In this perspective, it is considered the impact of the economic crises on public policies. The role of globalization and that played by national promotional banks are taken into consideration. The incentives for the creation of businesses and the mechanisms and procedures to facilitate entrepreneurship in the economically most disadvantaged territories are then examined. An analysis of the incentives for investments to improve productivity and size of the firms is also offered. Finally, there is a focus on public funds established in support of entrepreneurship, with particular reference to funds for small and medium enterprises, for strategic investments and those managed by government-owned companies.
