[automatically translated] Can a structured course of chess to improve the perception and manipulation of geometric elements? If yes, how? This was the question that has accompanied the entire experimental process, carried out in a Primary School in Palermo and discussed below. Considering some of the difficulties that children of Primary School have towards the geometry, discussed in the literature, it has been planned an educational project that develop the potential of an artifact like chess. This especially in reference to the development of visual-spatial skills and as an important factor of motivation to cross. This research activity, the result of intense collaboration between a teacher of primary school, author of this paper and a Master of Chess and Youth Qualified Instructor of the Italian Chess Federation, co-author of the paper, has seen as protagonists two fourth classes of primary school, one experimental and one control. The research activity began with the administration in both groups, of a socio-cultural questionnaire and a pre-test on the skills and expertise in the geometric scope is then continued with the application of an experimental protocol created ad hoc which allowed a first definition of some significant results on the improvement of visual-spatial skills underlying activity chess. This work fits into the broader framework related to the research project conducted by the GRIM
