Abstract

The paper aims to investigate the role played by the institutions through the activities of the camerali engineers, through the study of literature sources and especially a copious archival documentation. They were technicians employed by the royal administration, among which emerge some of the most active professionals of that time as Luigi Speranza, Giuseppe Patti and Alessandro Emmanuele Marvuglia. They were responsible for carrying out several inspections in the areas affected by the earthquake in order to assess and monitor the damages, preparing both general description of the centers affected by the earthquake, and detailed evaluations aimed at verification the instability of the buildings, especially of the monumental ones, also providing guidance on subsequent interventions of consolidation of structures.
