The research into perception is carried out by sciences and philosophical theories that support a variety of methods and ontological commitments. In this paper a set of features is specified that is shared by both conceptual and experimental varieties of the phenomenology of perception. It is argued that model building of well specified perceptual functions is allowed drawing upon the concepts and experimental evidence brought about by the phenomenological research. Arguments and historical evidence are provided that these models prove to contribute to the research into perception carried out by sciences endowed with different methods and constructs.
