Abstract

[automatically translated] We present the preliminary results obtained with the first Italian installation of equipment for functional neurosurgery using high intensity focused ultrasound to MRI guidance (trans-cranial MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery, tcMRgFUS); This is among other things the first tcMRgFUS equipment to the world ever installed on a 1.5T MRI scanner. This equipment is intended to functional neurosurgical treatment of patients with essential tremor (Essential Tremor, ET), idiopathic Parkinson (Parkinson's Disease, PD) mainly tremorigeno and neuropathic pain (neuropathy thic Pain, NP). They presented the results obtained with the first patients undergoing functional neurosurgery using tcMRg- FUS analyzing the technical difficulties faced for the optimization of both the intraoperative study sequences used as a guide for precise targeting than those used for MRI thermometry. Although this is a preliminary experience, the success of the first treatments from us effected, it laid the ground for future, innovative functional neurosurgical treatment using tcMRgFUS (currently performed in a few centers in the world using only 3T MRI scanner) , they will also be performed effectively with the most popular operating at 1.5T MR scanner.
