The essay tries to introduce an external view from the Lombard context, aimed at the understanding of that particular Italian question concerning the post-unitary definition of the architectural studies and the controversial relationship (still today undefined) between artistic and scientific "environment", between polytechnics, application schools and academies of BB. AA., underlining a condition in which Boito, as well as few other authoritative figures in the new national context, occupied teaching positions and academic governance in both educational institutions. We therefore point out the usefulness of an in-depth analysis of this debate, to verify and highlight the contribution of Camillo Boito in the broader national topic.
