The abstract summarizes the contents of my speech at the Study Conference "Fortification conference, Memory, Landscape", held on the occasion of the fifty years of activity of the Institute Italian Castle, onlus, 1964-2014, Bologna 27 to 29 november 2014. The conference was organized by the Institute Italian Caste Onlus, from the Department of History Culture Civilization Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna. The essay explores the religious architecture found in Norman castles of Sicily, as an expression of the culture of the time, fully embodied in the specific needs of military architecture. I, especially in the essay studied the Church of Saints Filippo and Giacomo, with its restoration and even with its recent interventions for the reuse and development also designed by the writer.
