“Alvar Aalto: If a ferocious lion jumped in a window?”. The title of this paper is a simple question that that surprises because it leads to change your point of view. This phrase is borrowed from Alvar Aalto because within it expresses a shocking case. It takes us like a “journey” that includes together men and animals in motion. For those who have ability to see everything around us can be a source oflearning , an essential factor to be considered in architectural projects. To support this theory are studied some travel sketches of the same Aalto , which in some ways has similar characteristics to the questions of his stories. Every question, every drawing contains a mysterious component to clarify. The locations shown on the go, from reality to paper, undergo a transfiguration useful to the project iin progress. From the “journey “ carnet also we discover assumptions made in the architecture of the Finnish master. The drawings show, in dialectical form the memory of a place. They are the result of a rigorous and slow observation that amplifies the author’s sentiment and turns into a quick representation of the deep feelings of his curious look. The graphic of the drawings is a virtuous circle that reveals “architectural ideas” (title of the book published in Italy in series edited by Giuliano Glesleri in 1987). He puts on the same level the development of an architectural culture and its artistic expression. Read these writings is to understand as its architectural gestation is impacted from everything he sees. The collection of essays in this context, is a testament to the design process of Aalto who, as a travel diary, in fact it tells so many different trips. For Aalto, the architect’s work also involves the manufacturer working and innovative for the design of a single house and for the planning of a city. He has not only designed the warm environment with organic characteristics, but with a combination of volumes and materials he has created places, spaces and impressive tools for the daily needs of man. Observe some of Aalto drawings, executed in Morocco and Sicily, is trying to emphasize and point out that everything we take note, in every moment of our daily lives, is related to the person who has the ability to “see”, to relations between inside and outside. It is a recognition in the architecture of Aalto that the context becomes a place in relation to the evolution of the project. Read his writings and understand the questions also posed through his travel sketches. It is an opportunity to take stock of all these experiences as the project tools who will return, even unconsciously, in desirable architectural projects.
